ABOUT

The L&J Files is a website about being sustainable and looking damn good doing it. It is the passion project of Laura Jones and Gisella Lemos, two New York stylists and long-time friends who love fashion and the environment.

The L&J Files brings style to sustainability. Utilizing their combined twenty years of fashion experience at publications including Vogue, W Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and Teen Vogue, Laura and Gisella turn their fashion eye towards ethical brands from all over the world. They shine a light on those who make, promote, and wear ethical clothing.

The site features styling tips and inspiration as well as informative articles about where our clothing comes from and the people who make it. Most importantly, Laura and Gisella reveal all they’ve learned in their personal quest to look great and shop ethically. Honest and passionate while bringing a wealth of professional knowledge, they deliver unique content that will help you to make savvy styling and buying choices.

The L&J Files features all original content, including fashion editorials, interviews with designers, styling tutorials, articles and much more.

What is Sustainable Style?

Sustainable:  of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged

The L&J Files exclusively promotes brands that are environmentally and/or ethically conscious.

We support brands whose missions focus on supplying gorgeous pieces with a minimal environmental footprint while ensuring the fair treatment and well-being of the people and animals throughout their supply chain. Some brands featured are further along in their journey to achieving this goal than others, but all are making important strides towards creating a fashion future that restores rather than depletes resources.

Sustainability though is much more than the brands we buy; it is a shift in attitude and restoring love for the clothing we invest in and appreciation for the people who make them. At the heart of The L&J Files is a desire to give women, of all shapes and sizes, the confidence and know how to dress in a way that is true to their style, so they do not fall victim to a cycle of fad trends, wasteful purchases, and fast, disposable fashion. Buying too much of the wrong thing is a surefire way to increase your carbon footprint and the main lesson learned by Gisella and Laura as stylists is that finding a style voice that is all your own and nurturing it, ends up being one of the best ways to be a more sustainable, ethical consumer. Buy less and buy better is our number one motto for style and sustainability.

Many of the tips and best practices presented encourage you as a shopper to simply think before you buy and resist the temptation to clog your closet with impulse purchases. All of those cheap wear once items usually add up quickly to the sum of what could have been an item of better quality, longer life, and beautiful style.

The L&J Files is here to advise in all areas of dressing and shopping. We introduce you to an amazing selection of brands and designers of all price points, help you to find and express your personal style, and encourage you to enjoy fashion, shopping, and dressing just as much as Laura and Gisella do.
