A BUSTY GIRL'S GUIDE TO THE PERFECT HOLIDAY DRESS

Festive season is here again, which means we'll all be searching for the perfect Insta-worthy dress to get us through the endless social engagements. Practicing sustainability can be tricky in party season when event panic sets in and you find yourself online hunting for the cheapest, fanciest dress that you'll hate next season. The average party tops is worn only 1.7 times! We recommend you take one or all of the following steps instead:

  •  Hit up a friends' wardrobe for some loaner outfits.
  • Explore businesses that rent dresses for the perfect party dress. We love Rent the Runway and Style Lend .
  • Buy classic pieces that can be styled with interesting accessories to create fresh new looks during and after holiday party season.

If you are genetically (or surgically) blessed in the bust, and you are determined to buy or rent something new for the office holiday party, searching for the perfect festive season dress that fits and doesn't show off too much cleavage can be a bit of a nightmare (hello awkward Christmas party encounters with the old office pervert).

Below are five styling tips to keep in mind when choosing the perfect party frock!

1. The Open Neckline

The open neckline is pretty much a busty girls best friend. Choosing dresses (or jumpsuits) that have a v/neck, scoop neck or square neckline will show off more of your décolletage and detract from the bust area. They also manage to make your bust look smaller. Choose some statement jewellery to shift the focus up and away from your bust (or something that points down if that's the look you're after this year!)

2. Stretch is your friend

Dresses made from a stretch fabric tend to be a bit easier to fit, particularly in the bust. A bodycon dress with a scoop neckline will look super flattering on the small framed big busted girl. Just make sure you choose good quality stretch fabrics and have a great supportive bra underneath for maximum impact.

3. Balance the bust with an A-Line skirt

Want to remove the focus from the bust? Look for a dark coloured top, preferably with a v, square or scoop neckline, then choose a bold print full skirt to go with it. By having a more demure top and fun bottom half you shift the focus away from your bust and balance out the proportions of your figure at the same time (this trick is also good for hiding a big booty... no one can tell if it's your butt or just lots of fabric in the skirt). You can also opt for an A line dress to achieve the same result.

4. The Wrap Dress

Diane Von-Furstenburg got it right for the busty girl when she invented the wrap dress in the 70's, this is now a modern classic and perfect for a busty girls festive frock. The v-neckline is super flattering on a large chest and the wrap style of the dress allows for a bit of movement in the fit, meaning you get a perfect fit without a trip to the tailor!

5. The Open Jacket

Another fantastic way for the well endowed to get more from your fabulous little black dress this party season is to throw a cropped jacket over an open neckline. This can take a potentially too revealing dress into the work Christmas party friendly zone. The jacket shifts the attention away from your bust and allows others to focus on your face!

So there you have it. A few simple tricks to help you feel extra merry this season! Happy Holidays!
